Whoever said “beggars can’t be choosers” never met Somali Muslims in Minnesota.
Muslim imports in Minneapolis are now demanding a tax-funded “halal” non-pork food shelf at a free food pantry for the poor. As if it’s not bad enough that nearly all the “American” Muslims who have joined ISIS have been Somalis from Minneapolis, their relatives here are demanding that Americans adhere to the same Sharia Laws the Islamic State fighters are trying to impose throughout the Middle East.
A group of first-generation Somali Americans says they need help in developing a food shelf that specializes in healthy foods that do not contain pork or pork byproducts. “It’s about human rights also, basic human rights to get the proper food and also healthy food,” said Imam Hassan Mohamud.
“Human rights”? Seriously?
Their arrogance and self-entitlement has to be unprecedented for a group on the public dole. Tens of thousands of Somalis settled in Minneapolis/St. Paul after Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and later Barack Obama imported them and funded massive “refugee” centers there. Welfare, schools, hospitals and social services have been crushed by the burden of immigrants who lack the most basic skills to live in a modern society.
This is hardly the first demands Somalis have made on the good people of Minneapolis. When the influx of Somali thugs naturally resulted is a massive increase in crime a decade ago, Somalis demanded a $48 million Sharia-compliant “youth center” to keep Somali gangs “out of trouble”.
We have read for several years now how Muslim cab drivers in Minneapolis and several airports have kicked out blind passengers with guide dogs (dogs are “unclean” in Islam), or customers transporting alcohol. They came here, taking advantage of American generosity, and returned it by enforcing their own brand of Sharia Law upon us.
Liberals in Minnesota have bent over backwards for them, setting up foot-washing basins in their airport and even at a university, in response to their demands.
But as with most appeasement, these refugees keep making more demands. Now it is for “halal” products (meat slaughtered with Islamic prayers and a ban on pork).
But one commenter on the article from Minneapolis wrote: “As someone who made use of the foodshelf recently, I can tell you that most of the food doesn’t contain pork. I hear what they are saying about a literacy issue, but can’t the food shelf people just point out the cans of pork and beans? Besides, the food shelf is based on donations!”
This is not about Muslims “making do” or getting help on what to eat. The Koran demands that Muslim make any country they live in adapt to them and Sharia Law.
The last thing they plan to do is assimilate.
Another added: “How long until they demand separate entrances to the food pantry for men and women and separate entrances for Muslims who don’t want to see any Christmas or holiday food or decorations?”
The state of Maine has also been crushed by Somalis that Obama has forced upon them. The Governor of Maine, Paul LePage has valiantly been trying to cut off cash aid to Somalis – nearly all of whom are on welfare – since Obama has purposely dumped thousands of them in Lewiston and Portland.
America got Black Hawk Down and 18 dead Americans. Somalis got 90,000+ “asylum” slots in America, free housing, Sharia-compliant facilities, and a lifetime of welfare. How do you say “chumps” in Somali?
The Imam leading this protest actually claimed that there were beans with pork in it and this was a “literacy” issue that required more government funding and special halal-compliant beans.
A new $215 million US government proposal would seek more than 1 million American volunteers for analysis of their genetic information in an initiative to fight disease, while developing targeted health care based on one’s DNA.
Officials hope the biobank project, announced Friday by President Barack Obama, can merge existing genetic studies with a diverse range of new volunteers to hit 1 million participants.
“Precision medicine gives us one of the greatest opportunities for new medical breakthroughs we’ve ever seen,” Obama said Friday, adding that it would “lay a foundation for a new era of life-saving discoveries.”
For the immediate future, the stated goal of the project is to fight disease, especially cancer, Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), said at a news conference Thursday, Reuters reported.
Volunteers, he said, have “an opportunity to take part in something historic.”
In the long run, Collins said the initiative would help with individualized health care.
How the US government will ensure that individual genetic information is kept private will certainly become a point of concern for many. A government-led database system amassing genetic coding will likely face resistance in this age of a global spying regime run by the US National Security Agency (NSA) and a genetic patent system used by the likes of Monsanto to consolidate legal ownership of the natural world.
For now, President Obama has proposed $215 million of his 2016 budget for the project: $130 million would go to the NIH for research; $70 million to NIH’s National Cancer Institute to study molecular triggers of cancer for eventual drug production; $10 million to the US Food and Drug Administration to construct regulatory guidelines; and $5 million to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to protect private data.
The US Congress has signaled support for the biobank project, according to Science magazine, but it would still have to approve Obama’s funding proposal.
That level of funding for the DNA analysis project is not enough to gather 1 million original participants, as whole-genome sequencing costs about $1,000 per genome, Collins said.
He added that the government’s pool of volunteers would add to existing participants in genomic research such as the US Department of Veterans Affairs’ Million Veteran Program. Started in 2011, that project, which seeks to boost individualized care for veterans, has sequenced the DNA of about 200,000 people with 100,000 more enrolled.
Academic institutions have also gathered and analyzed hundreds of thousands of genomes with the aid of NIH funding, and private companies have worked together to collect DNA information.
For example, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Geisinger Health System teamed up in 2014 to sequence DNA of of 100,000 Geisinger patients. Using their anonymous health records, the companies then monitored for correlations between genetic makeup and disease.
Yet Craig Venter, head of the nonprofit Human Longevity Inc, pointed out that “we can’t just mingle databases. It sounds like a naive assumption” if the US government believes it can easily mix information from various sources.
Human Longevity is in the process of sequencing 1 million genomes by 2020. The privately-funded efforts will then be handed over to partnering pharmaceutical companies for drug development.
“We’re happy to work with them to help move the science,” Venter told Reuters, despite the project’s high aspirations.
Collins said Thursday that merging databases would be a challenge, but not an insurmountable one.
“It is something that can be achieved but obviously there is a lot that needs to be done,” he said.
Dr. Margaret Hamburg, the FDA’s commissioner, said Thursday a new regulatory structure to accompany the development of new drugs and precision medicine “presents a set of new issues for us at FDA,” adding that the agency is in the process of working on new ways to review individualized medical procedures.
DNA mapping is an increasingly valuable tool for law enforcement as well as the health industry. In its 2013 Maryland v. King ruling, the US Supreme Court narrowly decided that the Fourth Amendment allows law enforcement to, without a warrant, collect DNA samples from arrestees even if they have not been convicted of a crime.
“Make no mistake about it,” the dissenting group of justices wrote of the majority decision. “Your DNA can be taken and entered into a national database if you are ever arrested, rightly or wrongly, and for whatever reason.”
More foreign direct investment flowed into China than the US in 2014, bumping the US off the top spot for investment in the world, a position it has held since 2003.
China attracted $127.6 billion in foreign investment in the past year, far more than the $86 billion that flowed into the US, according to figures published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on Thursday.
The difference between 2013 is staggering, when $123.9 billion poured into China and $230.8 billion into the US. The US saw foreign direct investment (FDI) fall to its lowest since 2009, when the market was wiped out by the financial crisis. The US ‘lost’ so much investment because of Verizon’s $130 billion purchase of Vodafone in the UK, which was counted against it in the UNCTAD tally.
China, the second largest economy, has been steadily gaining ground in FDI, which has accelerated with a flexible yuan exchange rate and reforms that make it easier for Western businesses to operate in mainland China.
“There have been structural changes in inflows to China, from manufacturing toward services, and from labor-intensive to tech-intensive,” according to Director of Investment and Enterprise at UNCTAD James Zahn.
After China, Hong Kong also pulled ahead of the US into second spot, followed by Singapore and Brazil. The US is the only developed, and not developing nation in the top five.
The survey also noted a major shift favoring investment in developing economies- which saw investment rise four percent in 2014, whereas developed economies fell by 14 percent.
The biggest loser was Europe and the former Soviet bloc. Russia lost 70 percent of its foreign investment, and Ukraine lost out on $200 million. Both are consequences of the conflict in East Ukraine.
Another title China swiped from the US in October was as the world’s biggest economy in terms of power purchasing parity.
Earlier this week, conservative talk show host Mark Levin warned that Barack Obama is campaigning and preparing the country for what amounts to a coup against the Constitution over the debt ceiling, Breitbart.com reported Sunday.
Levin said that it’s clear Obama has moved on from the shutdown and is now focused on the debt ceiling, paving the way for low-information liberals to support him as he bypasses Congress and unilaterally seizes control of the nation’s economy, Dr. Susan Berry wrote..
“Default, default, default…why is he saying that? Just to scare people?” Levin asked. “Well, that’s part of it, obviously. But, it’s more than that, ladies and gentlemen. Barack Obama is plotting, that if he can’t get what he wants out of the House Republicans, that if he can’t get his Plan A, and get Boehner and the Republicans to buckle – not just on the Continuing Resolution – but on the debt ceiling, then he’s got his Plan B.”
And what, exactly is “Plan B?”
According to Levin, that plan involves Obama unilaterally raising the debt ceiling by citing the 14th Amendment.
In essence, Levin said, Obama effectively plans to “seize from Congress the power of the purse” in what he called “the most egregious attack on our Constitution by a President” in all of U.S. history.
Examiner’s Anthony G. Martin said the 14th Amendment does not give Obama the authority to usurp Congress’ role regarding the debt ceiling.
“Nowhere does the Amendment mandate that overall federal spending be increased at the whim of a president, or anyone else in government, not even Congress,” he wrote.
Levin went further, saying that Obama is being encouraged “by Marxists dressed up as Constitutionalists, by people in his own party, he’s being encouraged to conduct himself as a dictator, and to bypass Congress and to bypass the Constitution.”
“They want a full-blown Constitutional crisis. Please, listen to me, this is what they want! So they can continue to shred it!” he added.
This isn’t the first time the subject has been brought up.
Last December, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Obama should be given dictatorial power to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling to infinity.
In July 2011, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, urged Obama to rule like a dictator on the debt ceiling. Other Democrats, like James Clyburn and former President Bill Clinton, have also suggested Obama bypass Congress and unilaterally raise the debt ceiling.
Levin went on to warn listeners of dire consequences to the nation if Obama acts unilaterally.
“So, it is he who is prepared to extort and blackmail in ways that most of you, and most of my colleagues in this business can’t even imagine, or don’t even understand,” he said. “And, if the President of the United States unilaterally lifts the debt ceiling, you can kiss the core functions of Congress goodbye, you can kiss this Republic goodbye, once and for all.”
Indeed, it would be the ultimate “fundamental transformation” Obama promised at the beginning of his presidency.
